Mobile Learning for Teachers

Abstract:  Mobile learning (m-learning) is a learning approach which allows students to study anywhere and anytime through mobile devices.  This course will help teachers discover how applying the appropriate m-learning approach using mobile devices is crucial for learning and teaching.  This personalised learning and teaching method potentially allows increased interaction and engagement between teacher and students. 

Target audience: Teachers from different levels who are interested in incorporating mobile learning strategies in their classrooms. 

Session objectives: By the end of this session, participants will be able to apply mobile learning strategies to their lessons.

Syllabus: 

Week 1: Jan, 11-18 2020

Meet and greet.

Introduction: - Mobile learning (Diana) + SEL (Carmen)

Top 5: Favourite movie, pet, things to do, places to go, food to eat. Discussion. (Carmen)

Content review (Diana and Carmen)

Introductory guide: Instructions on Canvas (Diana), Zoom (Carmen).

Face to Face session: Zoom (Carmen + Diana, 8am Dubai, 5am Madrid) Saturday, January 18th.

Task: Socialization task on Padlet (Diana) or Linoit (Carmen). Rubric.

The Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) (Diana)

Task: Using one of the reviewed apps create a slide, infograph, which reflects your thoughts on whether as teachers need to select certain mobile applications for students to use?  why or why not?  use TAM as the basic framework. Rubric.

What is Social and Emotional Learning (SEL)? (Carmen)

The connection between SEL and a mobile user (Carmen + Diana)

Task: Pair up with a participant on the course. Using one of the reviewed apps create a slide, infograph, draw a caricature, etc. which reflects your opinion on how the principles of SEL and UDL are or aren't compatible with mobile learning. (Carmen) Rubric.

Introduce the plan of action template.

Create a professional learning community to stay connected.

Task: Create a lesson with one or two mobile applications follow our (plan of action) template. Do the feedback survey. Join the professional learning community if you haven't done so yet. Rubric.
